- Dayo Traveling Exhibit

  • Thumbprint Gallery 920 Kline Street San Diego, CA, 92037 United States (map)

DAYO, a traveling exhibition showcasing a dynamic collection of contemporary and traditional artworks representing the diasporic journey of Filipino creativity and identity, runs from June 6 to June 28 commencing from the Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla, California.

Filipino and American creatives-enthusiasts stand to encounter in DAYO diverse and thought-provoking works that celebrate Filipino heritage, artistic expression, and cross-cultural dialogue while redefining the Filipino identity in the global diaspora.

Organizers envision DAYO as more than an art show but both a journey and community engagement where stitched narratives of emerging and established Filipino artists’ tapestry of paintings, sculpture, mixed media, and film invites viewers to immerse themselves in stories where faces are illuminated, identities are questioned, and traditions are reimagined. The artworks engage in conversations that transcend borders, challenging perceptions, and inviting deeper reflection. Each piece fosters a relationship between artists and audiences shaping a more nuanced and authentic representation of the Filipino identity.

Within the Tagalog meaning of DAYO as immigrant, alien, stranger, this art exhibit travels across the global Filipino diaspora where it connects artists worldwide- whether they define, challenge, or break the stereotypes surrounding the Filipino identity.
